Theo Paphitis Art Prize, Snooks With Books & Evening Standard Art Prize
2 x £5,000 prizes, 30 x £1k fees, art residencies, 4 photo awards & an Anselm Kiefer documentary...
Hi hi. This week’s edition skews more towards UK based artists than usual, apologies dear international friends - balance is redressed somewhat in the photography section.
Links to previous winners are proving popular here so I’ll be adding a ‘Past’ section to competition listings with links to last year’s winners when possible.
All three featured art competitions below are free to enter…
New Art Competitions
Newly opened on MoMa…
The Theo Paphitis Art Prize proves it wasn’t a one hit wonder with it’s second outing and a first prize increase of £2,000 to £5,000.
Open to UK based artists (over 18) creating 2-dimensional artwork in any painting or drawing media. This year’s theme is ‘Connection’. View last year’s winners.
It’s still free to enter and 10 shortlisted artworks will be exhibited at the London Graphic Centre store in Covent Garden in September. (closes 9th July)
It’s been 5 years since the Evening Standard Art Prize last roamed the art world and London based painter and illustrator Ashton Attzs picked up the £10k first prize. A prize that sadly, has been halved to £5,000 though it does come with a slightly random bespoke fragrance from Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, this year’s sponsor.
Open to UK based artists in the fields of sculpture, textiles, ceramics, glassware, jewellery and wood carving. The theme for 2023 is ‘A Portrait of You’. Free. (15 Jun)
Don’t ask me how I found the Snooks With Books open call for UK based artists and illustrators but I’m glad I did. 30 selected artists will receive a £1,000 fee to create a bespoke design for a Snook sculpture to feature on a bookish Snooks trail through Yorkshire. Designs should be inspired by the stories of Yorkshire authors of which they have a handy list here. Finally an auction event will see the Snooks sold and proceeds going to St Leonards Hospice and The York Creates Art Fund. (23 Jun)
