The Drawing Year
£15,000 Christie's Award, 1 Year Full Scholarship & London Studio Space, $37k Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, Tabernacle Art Competition
Hi folks, this week’s featured opportunity comes from the Royal Drawing School, an independent charity based in Shoreditch, London.
The Drawing Year is a full scholarship postgraduate-level course offering up to thirty students the opportunity to focus on drawing from observation for one year. There are no tuition fees, all students are awarded a full scholarship, receive a free studio space and can also apply for a London Living Grant of £3,000 to help with living costs.
Students have three end of year exhibitions, a highlight of which is the Christie’s Award, where one student receives £15,000 towards a solo exhibition. Louis Pohl Koseda was the winner of the 2023 award.
Courses are taught at postgraduate level by over 100 practising artists and experienced teachers who all have different approaches to drawing. In addition to a minimum of 3.5 days of taught courses each week, students are also offered tutorials with visiting tutors, a termly series of lectures from contemporary artists, writers, critics and art historians, special access to exhibitions and a two week painting trip, most recently in Tuscany.
Applicants will usually have completed a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art or a related subject, but this is not essential. Applicants should submit a digital portfolio of 10 drawings and 10 ‘additional works’ of any other work. £25 application fee applies. Open to UK and international artists eligible for a UK visa, age 18 and over.
Apply online here or find out more at Drawing Year Open Days on 20th Feb in Shoreditch or 4th March online.
