The Sunny Art Prize is open for entries with a £6,000 prize fund (£3,000 1st prize & London solo show), the top 3 winners awarded 1 month art residency in China.

30 artists will be selected for a group show in London next October. Plenty of time to prepare with a Summer closing date (30 Jun).

A small but perfect space

Cambridge based artist Miranda Boulton beat 8673 others to win this year’s Jackson’s Painting Prize and the top prize of £6,000 in her first year of entering.

The interview above (8 mins) sees Boulton, in her studio at the end of her garden, reflect on how memories of 17th century Dutch still life paintings become a jumping off point for spontaneity and intuition to take over...

“When you’re in the studio painting there are a lot of people in there with you – your teachers, friends, painters in history, critics – one by one, if you’re really painting, they walk out – and if you’re really painting, you walk out.”

After completing a degree in Art History Boulton pursued her dream of being a painter at the age of 30 enrolling at the online Turps Banana art school. The annual prize usually launches in December so stay tuned for opening dates.
