‘Beasts and Birds’ by Daniella Napolitano.
Hi! Here’s another weekly dose of art stuff with an emphasis on woodcut and relief printing starting with one of my favourites from Tugboat Printshop.
The 3 Year Print
If there’s one work of art I wish I’d bought at the time (2015) but hesitated before it sold out it’s ‘Overlook’ by Valerie Lueth & Paul Roden of Tugboat Printshop. 3 years in the making the 116 x 76cm woodcut was an incredible undertaking with 5 plates and 4 colour blocks. Watching Paul at work gives you a sense of the detail involved:
Colossal has a nice article on the process and don’t miss Tugboat’s behind the scenes photos and videos on Flickr. Visit Tugboat Printshop’s Etsy Shop.
Block Print Book
Released a few weeks ago Block Print For Beginners by Elise Young has good reviews for both adults and children getting started in relief printing. If you’re ready to print the whole hog then Jacksons Art sell the Fome manual lino / woodcut press.
