Hi folks, ‘tis the season for acronym competitions, starting with the NEAC AE aka the New English Art Club Annual Exhibition that celebrates figurative, observational and painterly work with a strong emphasis on drawing.

Artists are invited to submit work (paintings, drawings & original framed prints) for exhibition alongside members at Mall Galleries, London next summer.

Over £10,000 of prizes are available. View the 2023 exhibition & prize winners. £20 entry (£14 if under 35), open to UK & international artists (closes 8 March 2024)

Never Too Late

With arthritis making it too difficult for to sew, Grandma Moses, in her 78th year, taught herself to paint. Working out of her bedroom, on primed masonite boards, she went on to create over 1,700 paintings.

The Almanac clip below shows the artist at work as Charles Osgood inquires “Do you hate to see a painting sold after you’ve made it and liked and looked at it a long time?” “No, oh, no” says Grandma Moses, “I’d rather see the money”.
