MoMa Weekly Interviews
The recent MoMa Weekly Showcase happily led to some new Artist Interviews.
First up is Sussex based landscape painter Riga Forbes, a finalist in the 2020 Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize, who talks about her return to making art, mindfulness, selling art and her ongoing love affair with painting the natural world.
Second up is Venice based artist Giusto Pilan whose archetypal paintings, monotypes and sculptures have a timeless quality and an archetypal simplicity. He talks about his working practice, inspirations and motivations for making art.
Beirut Artists Support
It’s been a week since the awful Beirut blast, here are some artist-led ways to help.
For The Love of Beirut Print Sale
60 Lebanese, Middle East and international artists have come together to celebrate their appreciation for the city and support the communities affected by the blast. All 10x15” prints are $135 + shipping such as “Patan, Nepal, 2016” by Smita Sharma.
Fundraising for Artists
Lebanese born artist Walid Raad is spearheading a fundraising initiative - 100% of money raised goes to support individual artists & arts organisations in Beirut.
Supporting Beirut Museums
Recently reopened after 2015 renovations you can support the Sursock Museum after it was badly damaged in the blast. Articles by The Art Newspaper & Hyperallergic give a sense of the devastation. Marfa’ Gallery list more ways to help.
New Domestika Art Course & Sale
200 courses at £10 each in the latest Domestika sale. Had my eye on new courses and the preview for this watercolour course looks good. Currently €14.90 on pre-sale.
