Hi! New open calls are thin on the ground this week so let’s turn our attention to some soon to be closing art prizes. But first, a new addition to our competitions page, the 14th Annual Manifest Prize features a $5,000 cash award for the winner and a four-week solo exhibit at the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center non profit space in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Open to artists of all nationalities working in any media or genre - “The jury and judging process has no stylistic or media-based preference or bias”.
Washington DC based artist Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann won last year’s prize. Early bird entry is $40 for up to 5 works, $60 after 1st September (final deadline 1st October 2023).

The Society of Scottish Artists 125th Annual Exhibition moves from Edinburgh’s RSA to the Maclaurin Art Gallery in Ayr. Open to artists worldwide, prizes are yet to be announced (2021’s prize fund was £8,000), free entry to members, £15 non members. Annual membership fees: Student: £10, Graduate: £20, Artist: £40 (closes 21st August)
Wales Contemporary - £12,000 of prizes, group show at Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven, UK. £15 entry, UK & International (21 Aug)
maltabiennale.art 2024 - grants of up to €13,000 to create ‘challenging, curious and immersive experiences’ for the Malta Biennale at MUŻA. The theme of ‘white sea olive groves’ reflects Malta’s location ‘in the centre of the Mediterranean and on the periphery of Europe’. Free entry, UK & Int (25 Aug)
Sussex Contemporary - £2,000 worth of prizes, Brighton seafront exhibition, artists based, born or educated in Sussex, theme: Metamorphosis, £15 entry (31 Aug)
Women United Art Prize - 4 x €500 prizes + online shows/interviews/subscriptions. View the 2022 winners and finalists in Drawing & Painting, Collage & Fibre Art, Photography & Printmaking, Digital Art. €8 entry, UK & Int (31 Aug)
25th ING Discerning Eye Exhibition with £14,000 prize fund. Two artists (Chris Levine & Julian Wild), two critics (Eliza Gluckman & Péjú Oshin) and two collectors (Ian “H” Watkins & Tony Adams) will select their own mini-exhibitions from submitted works alongside independently selected artists.
