Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve sat in the artist interview chair so it was fun to talk with California based artist Hyunah Kim about her work and process.

Hyunah talks about communicating beyond language, selling art online (she’s sold over 80 paintings on Saatchi Art!) and why her cat makes the best studio therapist.

Tiny Art Projector

I was looking for a way of tracing a detailed digital collage on to boards for painting. Digging around on artist forums led me to The Pico Genie range from Personal Projectors. After a helpful chat with their support I went with the Pico Genie 3 ultra portable projector and it’s been absolutely perfect for my needs.

The clarity of image from super close range to several metres away is exceptional, even in ambient daylight. I just open an image on my tablet, phone or laptop, plug it in to the projector and use the in built software to line it up then start tracing. A tripod is handy for positioning, likewise an overhead camera mount. It also doubles up as a home projector with Netflix apps etc built in.

The above video by pet portrait artist Madeleine García shows the Pico Genie 2 which is smaller and slightly less bright than mine but should suffice for most. Prices start around £250 in the early Black Friday sale.
