Hi! Now that Spring’s starting to do what Spring does let’s turn our attention to Summer with an open call for The Gallery at Green & Stone’s Summer Exhibition with prizes worth over £17,000 – including a fully funded solo show at the London gallery. Selectors include artists Holly Frean and Catrin Treadwell. Artists working in 2D and 3D (up to 1m x 1m) can apply. Global entry is £20 per work, £15 for under 30s. Previous winners include Nneka Uzoigwe and Michael Slusakowicz. (closes 12 May)
The Hari Art Prize is back for its second outing – for self-taught or newly graduated (2021-2023) UK based artists. A £10,000 prize and show at the London hotel awaits the winner while 2 runners up will receive residencies and exhibitions in 2024. Judges include Irene Bradbury director of White Cube Gallery & Melissa Digby-Bell from Offshoot Arts. Free to enter. (closes 30th June)

The Most Westerly Art Residency in Europe
Áras Éanna is an art centre on the small Gaeltacht island of Inis OÍrr in Co Galway, Ireland. Their 2024 residencies offer artists the time and space to develop their practice and show new work in the unique environment of the island, with a population of just under 300 people. Up to ten residencies are awarded each year. Each residency includes accommodation, studio space, access to theatre facilities and galleries. A stipend will be paid to successful applicants. (31 Aug)

Jason Kottke didn’t have high hopes for this Nerdwriter video on John Singer Sargent, thinking he was ‘some fusty 19th-century painter who was not as interesting as the Impressionists’. Eight minutes later he was Sargent’s newest fan.
