DIY Printmaking
Portable printing press, St Vincent on creativity, 50% off photobooks, Adobe conference, Art jobs & competitions
Fome Etching Press
Sophie Harding usually prints at the Penzance School of Art but had no access to presses over lockdown. Realising she needed to invest in her own press she went with the Fome School Etching Press and loves it.
This has been the best thing I’ve bought all year! Recommended by a fellow printmaker. Portable, storable and perfect for a small space. I am obsessed.
Jackson’s Art printmaking expert Julie Caves has been writing a series of articles on getting the most from the Fome press. See it in action with Canadian artist Eveline Kolijn. Good news is it’s currently reduced from £273 to £225.
Can vouch for Caspar Williamson’s Low Tech Print for DIY print inspiration.
50% off Blurb Photobooks with code: BESTEVER50 (through Oct 16th). Wrote about my experience using their service & used for 4 further books, all look great.
Creativity & Songwriting
New class with the insanely talented St. Vincent on Masterclass.
When I think about what’s held me back in the past, it was that inner voice that always seems to be more critical than confident. Over my career, though, I’ve developed room within my process to allow for vulnerability and instead use it to drive creative epiphanies. This class is for anybody who wants to learn how to explore their artistry; whatever the medium.
Just started St. Vincent’s class after enjoying Steve Martin’s comedy course. An annual pass is £14.17 a month with access to 85+ classes from Spike Lee to Annie Leibovitz. Not cheap but the stellar line up of teachers, diversity of subjects, excellent apps and high production values make it a worthwhile creative investment.

Edinburgh 100 Years Ago
Alfred Buckham's first ambition was to be a painter, but after seeing Turner's pictures in the National Gallery, he returned home and made a bonfire of his own work. Buckham created this composite photo of Edinburgh on October 12th, 1920. With a mere 9 crashes to his name, here’s Buckham on aerial photography - “If one's right leg is tied to the seat with a scarf or a piece of rope, it is possible to work in perfect security.”
