Children’s Art Prizes
New page for kids competitions, £50,000 of art prize additions, Jayne Stokes, Art jobs & opportunities
By popular demand I’ve created a new page for Children’s Art Competitions. With opportunities to win a FROG bike, feature in a Captain Sir Tom Moore book, exhibit at the Royal Academy or win a Harry Potter Experience! See last year’s post on the RA Young Artists’ Summer Show for inspiration.
Art Workshops for Children
Hervé Tullet is exactly the kind of madcap art teacher you’d want as a kid. This review of his Art Workshops For Children book for parents and teachers says it all:
“Above all, these activities shake up traditional ideas about a picture being 'well drawn.' By validating the splotch and the scribble, Tullet challenges the age-old notion that it takes a particular talent to produce art, he demonstrates that creativity evolves from our way of looking.” - Sophie Van der Linden
The book outlines eleven inspiring art activities for kids of all ages.
New £20,000 Portrait Prize
Announced this evening with only a week until closing! The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Award prize fund expands to £43,000 with the addition of the William Lock Portrait Prize - £20,000 for “the most timeless portrait with a real feeling for paint and its aesthetic potential” (closes 25th Jan)
Assemblages by North Berwick based artist Jayne Stokes, one available here.
£6,000 Gilchrist Fisher Award
Quite a backstory to this newly added award on our Art Competitions page:
Alasdair Gilchrist-Fisher, who died of cancer in December 1986 at the age of twenty-four. He was a remarkable young man whose wit, intelligence, enthusiasm and love of life won him many friends and presaged a great future. Soon after his illness was diagnosed he began a postgraduate art course, finding much joy in the discovery and exploration of landscape painting.
It was to celebrate Alasdair’s life – and this particular connection – that his friends raised a fund to establish the Gilchrist-Fisher Award.
Open to artists addressing landscape aged under 30 on 1st Jan 2022 (closes 1st June)
