BigCi Environmental Awards, £25k Jameel Prize, £600k Unlimited Awards
4 week residency & $4k cash, V&A award for moving image work inspired by Islamic art, 14 commissions for disabled artists
Hi! This week begins with an international offering from the edge of the Wollemi National Park in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains.
BigCi - Bilpin is an independent, artist run, not for profit artist residency program an hour and a half drive from Sydney, Australia.
The BigCi Environmental Awards is open to international and Australian artists from various fields (visual art, installation, multimedia, performance, literature, music, photography, film making, curating). Two artists will each receive a 4 week BigCi residency and $4,000 spending money each.
The winning artists will have an opportunity to explore the Wollemi, the Blue Mountains and the Gardens of Stone National Parks on guided walks and will be given research assistance relevant to their projects. At the end of their residencies, they will present their work at a BigCi Open Day event.

“We are looking for inspirational projects that will be executed within the residency time frame. You can choose to deal with relevant environmental or natural science issues, explore ideas and concepts related to nature, or use this opportunity to creatively respond to the unique wilderness on our doorstep and the current challenges it faces.”
2022 winners were Arianna Pace and Rae Howell. $35 entry fee (closes 2nd October).
Unlimited UK and International Open Awards - £600,000 in total awards will be allocated to 14 commissions for disabled artists in England, Scotland, Wales working on UK based projects or International collaborative projects, free entry (2 Oct)
The Jameel Prize - £25,000 award, The seventh edition of the V&A’s triennial award is devoted to moving image and new media work, inspired by Islamic art, culture, history, or ideas. Previous winner – Ajlan Gharem, UK & Int, free entry (15 Oct)
The Four Nations International Fund supports those working in the arts and creative industries across the UK nations, together with their counterparts in Europe and beyond. Applicants can request between £1,000 and £7,500 from a total budget of £320,000 for in-person, digital or hybrid activity including exchanges, residencies, partnership development, co-creation and networking, with priority given to applications experimenting with innovative models of international collaboration.
Expressions of Judaism - open call for group show at Kent House, Knightsbridge (28 Sep - 23 Oct). Curator (& MoMa reader) Orit Schreiber asks “How does your experience of Judaism manifest in your creative work? We are looking for a wide range of expression beyond specifically traditional representative Jewish art. This promises to be a diverse and thoughtful group show and we encourage artists to apply nationwide.” £20 admin fee, UK (20 Sep)
Gomma Photography Grant - €1,000 1st prize, ‘awarding unconventional and daring works of artists, that show their unique take on photography and penetrate the viewer emotionally on a profound level’, €9.99 early bird entry, UK & Int. (8 Nov)
