Hi! Today sees the launch of The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours’ RI Exhibition 2024 (not to be confused with the recently featured Royal Watercolour Society Open) showcasing works in watercolour, acrylic, ink, and gouache.
Open to both UK and international entries (£20 entry fee per work, £14 students) with a substantial list of prizes totalling over £7,000. This year’s Winsor & Newton Award of £3,000 was won by UK based artist Julie Green for the gouache work below.
View the 2023 online exhibition, list of prize winners and two featured artists in the video below. Over 400 works were selected for the exhibition. The 2024 show will take place next April at Mall Galleries, London. More info on the RI Exhibition 2024 here.

America’s “Bohemian Queen”: A Sleeping Surrealist is a nice intro article combined with the video below to the work of the American surrealist Gertrude Abercrombie (1909-1977) and how her work is finally getting the attention it deserves.
“Surrealism is meant for me because I am a pretty realistic person but don’t like all I see. So I dream that it is changed. Then I change it to the way I want it. It is almost always pretty real. Only mystery and fantasy have been added. All foolishness has been taken out. It becomes my own dream.” - Gertrude Abercrombie
