This week’s featured open call is the 7th edition of the Derwent Art Prize for 2D and 3D work created in pencil (including water-soluble, pastel, graphite, charcoal or coloured pencils). Mixed media works are eligible but the main component must be pencil or one of the media previously listed. Featuring £13,000 of prizes, including a first prize of £4,000 (plus £600 of Derwent products). Open to both UK & International artists, £15 entry fee for first work, £5 for under 25s.
The previous edition received a record 6,100 artworks from 43 countries. View the 2022 Prize Winners. Group show at Gallery@Oxo, London next April. (closes 4th Jan)

Acme Artist Survey
Acme’s Artist Tenant Survey - Results are in from hundreds of London art studio tenants and it’s not looking rosy…
Nearly 75% of respondents indicated that they were struggling financially. Even though nearly half of our respondents considered themselves to be mid-career artists, only 12% indicated that they could support themselves financially through their practice, with income required from multiple other sources to survive.

The Banksy Story - Just finished the new 10 part podcast series exploring all things Banksy by self proclaimed superfan James Peak. It’s a fun listen and might even have the first recording of Banksy’s voice but the real star is Steph Warren who worked at Pictures on Walls. All episodes on BBC Sounds now (UK) or weekly everywhere else.
